Gratitude & Appreciation

The National Ballet thanks every member in our community of support – our audiences, donors and volunteers – for your generosity and dedication. Your loyalty during the pandemic inspired the company and ensured that we were able to return to the stage as soon as it was safe to do so. Thank You, Joan and Jerry Lozinski

The National Ballet is grateful to Joan and Jerry Lozinski for their landmark gift to endow the position of Artistic Director. Over the course of their nearly four decades of support for the National Ballet, Joan and Jerry have offered their insight, advice and heartfelt commitment. They made this gift to the Endowment Foundation because they recognized the need for consistent and long-term funding for sustained creative vision and inspired leadership. The naming of the Joan and Jerry Lozinski Artistic Director is a fitting testament to their longstanding contributions to the company and advances their wish to leave a powerful legacy for future generations of ballet lovers.

Thank You, Anna McCowan-Johnson & Donald K. Johnson, O.C.

Over their years of involvement with the National Ballet, Anna McCowan-Johnson and Don Johson have been champions for the company, advocates for dance and exemplars of the philanthropic spirit. To honour Anna, whose long career as a dance educator inspired generations of young people, Don has created a legacy at the National Ballet with a transformational $10 million gift. Don has established three endowed funds to help broaden opportunities to engage with dance and to encourage artists and our community to come together: The Anna McCowan-Johnson Dance Accessibility Fund, The Anna McCowan-Johnson Director of Equity and Engagement and The Anna McCowan-Johnson New Creations Fund.

The Volunteer Committee

The National Ballet of Canada Volunteer Committee received a 2022 June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism as a group. Selected by the Province of Ontario, the award recognizes the Volunteer Committee’s 70 years of outstanding service in support of the company. Since 1977, the members of the Volunteer Committee have directed their generosity towards their Build-a-Ballet Fund and have funded 54 productions by raising over $7,4 million. In the 2021/22 season, Volunteer Committee members saw a re-mount of Crystal Pite’s Angels’ Atlas, to which they contributed in 2020, and contributed this season towards the world premiere of Swan Lake. The entire National Ballet family congratulates every member of The Volunteer Committee, past and present, on receiving this award.

70 for 70 Campaign

To mark the 70th Anniversary of the National Ballet, the Celia Franca Society Ambassador Committee announced a goal to secure 70 new legacy gifts by 30 juin, 2022. Members of the Celia Franca Society thoughtfully arrange legacy gifts in their wills and create a meaningful impact on the future of the company that reflects their commitment and belief in the art form. This important avenue for giving ensures long-lasting financial security for the National Ballet. The 70 for 70 Legacy Campaign exceeded the goal, with 92 individuals becoming legacy donors, and was recognized by the Canadian Association of Gift Planners GTA Chapter with the Award for Excellence in Legacy Giving.

Launch of Ballet 365

The National Ballet’s monthly giving programme re-launched as Ballet 365 to highlight how consistent and sustained funding is an invaluable resource for the company. We are proud that our artists and staff create, perform and live in Toronto all year round; the generosity of donors supports our artists, performances and community initiatives over the course of a season while also allowing us to plan ahead for long-term projects to engage and inspire our audiences.
