Trygve Cumpston est né à Des Moines, Iowa, et a été formé à la School of Classical Ballet and Dance dans sa ville natale, à l’Orlando Ballet School en Floride et à la San Francisco Ballet School en Californie. Trygve joined The National Ballet of Canada as a RBC Apprentice in 2012 and became a member of the Corps de Ballet in 2013.
Trygve has danced such roles as Benno in Swan Lake and L'Allumeur in Le Petit Prince. His repertoire includes The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Giselle, The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Onegin, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Winter’s Tale, Nijinsky, Anna Karenina, Pinocchio, A Streetcar Named Desire, Manon, La Sylphide, The Dream, The Four Seasons, Serenade, The Concert, Allegro Brillante, Opus 19/The Dreamer, Approximate Sonata 2016, Piano Concerto #1, Angels’ Atlas, MADDADDAM, Symphony in C, Concerto, Elite Syncopations, Paz de la Jolla, Frame by Frame, Being and Nothingness, Night, Crepuscular and On Solid Ground.
In 2022, Trygve received the David Tory Award.
