Alexandra MacDonald est née à Calgary, en Alberta, et a reçu sa formation à l’International School of Ballet à Calgary, en Alberta et par le programme de stagiaire du Boston Ballet au Massachusetts. Elle a rejoint le Ballet national du Canada en tant qu’apprentie de RBC en 2007 et elle a été promue au rôle de soliste principale en 2016.
Alexandra has danced such roles as Princess Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty, the Snow Queen in The Nutcracker, Titania in The Dream, Myrtha, Queen of the Wilis in Giselle, Choleric in The Four Temperaments and La Vaniteuse in Le Petit Prince. She has also danced roles in the world premiere of Frame by Frame by Robert Lepage and Guillaume Côté as well as in such ballets as Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Onegin, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Nijinsky, Don Quixote, La Fille mal gardée, Hamlet, The Seagull, Pinocchio, The Concert, Symphony in C, Elite Syncopations, Opus 19/The Dreamer, Theme and Variations, The Four Seasons, West Side Story Suite, Glass Pieces, Carousel (A Dance), Emergence, Angels’ Atlas, Cacti and The Dreamers Ever Leave You.
In 2018, Alexandra was the recipient of the David Tory Award and in 2010, she received the Patron Award of Merit. Elle a été finaliste pour le Youth America Grand Prix et a participé à la compétition du prix de Lausanne en 2007. In 2006, Alexandra received the Royal Academy of Dance Solo Seal Award and was a finalist in the Genée International Ballet Competition.
