In Memoriam

Arthur Scace, C.M., Q.C.

The National Ballet of Canada mourns the passing of dear friend and inspirational philanthropist Arthur Scace who, together with his wife Susan, offered decades of influential support to the company. Arthur and Susan were among the first members of the Patrons’ Council, joining shortly after the programme was founded over 35 years ago. In time, they developed a passion for new productions and made a multi-year commitment to The Producers’ Circle to help finance new work, including a leadership gift to Karen Kain’s forthcoming Swan Lake.

Arthur was a member of the Campaign Cabinet of the Canadian Opera House Corporation that raised the funds to build the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, a project he and Susan supported independently through the National Ballet's Next Steps campaign, one of several major company campaigns they joined. Arthur and Susan were dedicated to the artistic wellbeing of the dancers and gave generously to the Endowment Foundation. Arthur’s extraordinary legacy extends to his professional work within Canada’s legal community, for which he was named Queen’s Counsel in 1986 and Member of the Order of Canada in 2004. An altruistic and visionary individual, Arthur was a trusted and much loved member of the National Ballet family and he will be deeply missed.
